Our weekend getaway…

It was one of the most relaxing yet also terrifying weekends I’ve ever had. I’d been wanting to take a solo trip with Lucky for a while—both to let her be without fear and to disconnect from the world so I could focus on her and myself. Her birthday weekend felt like the perfect time, especially since it coincided with Daniel’s trip to Germany with his friends. He dropped us off Friday and picked us up Monday afternoon. Despite our original Airbnb canceling last minute, we found a backup right away.
Here’s a rundown of the weekend:
Was this weekend what I expected? Absolutely. Would I do it again? Maybe. Would I ever do it without Lucky? Never.
Would you try something like this with your dog?
Here’s a rundown of the weekend:
- I kept the fire going, learned to get water from the well and pump it into the cabin. Lucky cheered me on every step of the way.
- I read, knitted, cleaned, cooked, and walked a lot while Lucky explored the area or recovered from exploring.
- Lucky gave me two heart attacks:
- The first was a false alarm. I thought our recall was solid—but in nature, excitement took over. I lost sight of her for a few minutes and panicked, yelling for 10 minutes straight. Only then, I learned about her Tractive GPS tracker’s live mode and found her 50 meters behind the cabin, minding her own business 🫠
- The second scare? She chased after a deer and ran much farther than I’m used to. All I could do was track her on my screen and wait for her to return. She stayed on leash the rest of the trip.
- Nights were a bit terrifying. It was so remote, pitch black, and dead quiet. The bathroom was outside, so I braved the darkness once a night. I felt vulnerable being so isolated, while Lucky was having the time of her life 😂
- Our bond deepened. I didn’t think we could get closer, but spending every second together, even during scary bathroom trips, brought us closer than ever 🥰
- Lucky was so happy and carefree, chewing sticks, zooming around, and excited to explore 🥺 she was the confident, carefree dog I hope she grows into more each day.
